Beer & Pizza Pairings: The Ultimate Gold Coast Backyard Line-Up

Good beers. Great pizza. And a ripper night with the lads (or anyone keen for both).

There’s nothing like an arvo in the backyard, beers on ice, tunes humming, pizzas flying out of the oven, and a few mates giving their dough questionable names.

The often asked question, what beers So here it is, your Gold Coast beer and pizza pairing guide, based on some of our most-loved pizza flavours and matched with local brews you can grab from Dan’s, BWS, or even better, straight from the brewery.

Whether you’re planning a boys’ night, a summer bash, or just something more fun than another sausage sizzle, this line-up is hard to beat.

1. Semplice (Margherita-style)

What’s on it: San Marzano tomato, fior di latte, fresh basil
Beer Match: Burleigh Bighead (Burleigh Brewing Co)

Why it works: Clean and crisp, Bighead gives your classic Margherita the respect it deserves. No carbs, but full of flavour. Light enough to keep going back for more slices.

🛒 Where to get it: Burleigh Brewing taproom or most Dan Murphy’s.

2. Piccante (Spicy Salami + Hot Honey)

What’s on it: Spicy salami, olives, hot honey
Beer Match: Black Hops Pale Ale (Burleigh Heads)

Why it works: That hit of chilli and sweet honey needs a mate with backbone. This pale ale has the hops to cut through the fat and the punch to match the heat.

🛒 Where to get it: Black Hops taprooms (Burleigh or Biggera), or Dan’s.

3. Funghi (Mushroom + Truffle Oil)

What’s on it: Sautéed mushrooms, rocket, truffle oil
Beer Match: Lost Palms Tropical Ale (Miami QLD)

Why it works: Earthy meets fruity. The mushrooms and truffle bring depth, and the tropical ale lightens it up. One of those "unexpected but bang-on" pairings.

🛒 Where to get it: Lost Palms Brewery or select bottle-os across the coast.

4. Fichi (Fig, Prosciutto & Gorgonzola)

What’s on it: Dried figs, gorgonzola, prosciutto di Parma
Beer Match:Balter XPA (Currumbin)

Why it works: Fancy topping, chill beer. The Balter XPA’s citrus zing keeps the rich cheese and sweet fig from getting too heavy. One for the flavour chasers.

🛒 Where to get it: Dan’s, BWS, or straight from Balter’s legendary warehouse taproom.

5. Tartufo / Patata (Potato + Pancetta)

What’s on it: Thin potato slices, pancetta, garlic oil or truffle oil depending on the version
Beer Match: Stone & Wood Pacific Ale (Byron Bay, we’ll claim it)

Why it works: This one’s salty, savoury, and loaded with flavour. Pacific Ale’s light body and tropical notes are the refresh button you didn’t know you needed.

🛒 Where to get it: Everywhere. But best enjoyed cold from the esky with a hot slice in hand.
